PREMIERE: 24.10.2020 OTHER STAGE (ONLINE)
TIME: 60 MIN
“Patient 0” is a new play written by Wojtek Ziemilski and Wojtek Świeściak, a tale of the need or obligation to self-isolate. It is a tale of uncertainty, joy, and foolishness.
“It’s an insane idea for people to touch one another, that this gives them something, that they need to be close. We have nothing to replace it with apart from chaos, mental and moral. Generally speaking, all of us know we’re screwed. So we’re looking for scapegoats, the ‘true sources of evil,’ because it’s good to have a bit of truth on hand,” says the director, and invites one and all to this unusual encounter with “PATIENT 0”.
“(…) When something has gone wrong we try to understand what it was. When something bad happens, we try to get to the source of that evil, to its roots. So it is with sicknesses—we wonder what we ate to make our stomach hurt, or who sneezed on us and gave us a cold. Precisely. And here we come to the subject I’d like to raise today—the hunt for the source, the hunt for the source of the illness. But not in our own lives, in someone else’s. (…)”
The play premiered simultaneously in two spaces: on stage and the Internet. The LIVE version was performed in Wałbrzych, on the Other Stage, on October 24 at 6:00 pm.
